In 2022, ten new works will be premiered at the PRISMS festival, including commissions from guest artists  Sarah Belle Reid, Elainie Lillios, and Tito Rivas for 5th-order Ambisonic Dome, a commission from Hendel Almétus for saxophone quartet, three new works by ASU graduate composers Sofía Matus, Eduardo Orea, and Myles Kellerman, and new works by faculty composers Gabriel Bolaños, Garth Paine and  Jody Rockmaker.

Guest artists include Gabriele Baldocci (piano), Robert Spring (clarinet), ACME, Crossing 32nd Street ensemble and Kodachrome saxophone quartet.

Concert 1: ACME (Arizona Contemporary Music Ensemble)

The first concert of the festival features world premieres by ASU graduate composition students Myles Kellerman and Sofía Matus, alongside works by Laura Toxvaerd, Kaija Saariaho, and Olivier Messiaen’s 20th century classic, Oiseaux Exotiques, featuring the piano soloist Gabriele Baldocci.


Concert 2: Faculty Concert

Monday November 21, 7:30pm at Katzin Concert Hall. Pre-concert talk at 7:00 pm.

The pre-concert talk at 7:00pm is with composer Hendel Almétus and visual artist Alan M. Klinger. Almétus is on faculty at University of the Pacific, and he will be discussing his new work for saxophone quartet titled Luminous, which was inspired by Klinger’s work and commissioned for the 2022 PRISMS festival. This concert will also feature a world premiere by graduate student composer José Eduardo Orea Dominguez, works by faculty composers Jody Rockmaker and Alex Temple, and a world premiere by Gabriel Bolaños, in addition to a piece by Theresa Martin. Featuring performances by Robert Spring, Kodachrome Sax Quartet and Crossing 32nd Street Ensemble.

World premiere of five new works for the 5th order Ambisonic Dome in Arts, Media and Engineering, including three commissions from renowned composers Elainie Lillios, Tito Rivas and Sarah Belle Reid, and two works by faculty composers Garth Paine and Gabriel Bolaños. These commissions were possible because of a HIRBI grant and additional support from AME and the School of Music, Dance and Theatre. Because seating is limited, the same program will be presented at 6pm and 9pm on 12/2, and at 2pm and 5pm on 12/3.
